BACKGROUND:
Zinfandels long history in the US is shrouded in mystery and reads in many parts like a mystery novel. Although European in origin, it has been used and appreciated for over 160 years in winemaking here, making it as close to an American variety as we can get. Genetically much older than newer so-called noble grapes, it has a tremendous ability to span stylistically, from small to big.

STYLE:
A lighter, more fresh style that emulates how Zinfandels used to be made in California, before emphasis was put on extraction. A woodsy nose, despite having very little oak influence (only about 15% new oak), with the brambly fruit markers that Zin tend to have. It does benefit from a slight decant to unlock the fruit.

VINEYARD:
Steve Lauchland has been farming his predominantly Zinfandel-planted vineyard since the 70’s. Most of his vines were planted in the 80’s, making them not quite historic of age, but certainly old enough to have found their expression and stress resistance.
